A key component of traditional Chinese medicine, acupuncture uses needles, which are inserted into specific points on the body or meridians to help treat various health-related symptoms.
At DNA Health, we are increasingly using acupuncture in our treatment protocols for overall wellness. Our practitioners have been carefully selected based on their extensive experience, credentials, trust, positive outcomes, and ability to understand the body as a whole.
During the treatment, your acupuncturist inserts very thin needles into specific spots on your body. Insertion of the needles usually causes little discomfort.
Our approach is unique as we blend aspects of Eastern and Western practices. To determine the type of acupuncture treatment that will help you the most, we ask you about your symptoms, behaviours and lifestyle and examine:
The parts of your body that are painful
The shape, coating and colour of your tongue
The colour of your face
The strength, rhythm, and quality of the pulse in your wrist
This initial evaluation and treatment may take up to 60 minutes. Subsequent appointments usually take about a half-hour. A common treatment plan for a single complaint would typically involve one or two treatments a week. The number of treatments will depend on the condition being treated and its severity. In general, it’s common to receive six to eight treatments.
This session lasts for up to 60 minutes and includes a detailed review by Dr Won of your symptoms, behaviours, and lifestyle. We will put plan together a treatment plan for you and carry out your first session.
A 5 session package of acupuncture with Dr Won. Most of our clients purchase a 5 session package as most treatment plans involve a series of treatments aimed to alleviate you of your symptoms.
*Please note : All new clients must have a detailed consultation with the doctor.
Dr Won is a South Korean acupuncturist, with a MSc in oriental medicine from Dongguk University and a DSc in oriental medicine from South Baylo University in the USA. He has a California acupuncture license, and a doctor of Cam-acupuncture from Dubai Healthcare City and brings with him over 15 years’ experience in acupuncture healing.
He has been initiated in the Korean traditional acupuncture techniques, and Buddhist Martial Art Qi-Gong. Through these practices, Dr Won realized yin-yang in nature and how to control yin-yang within the human body.
His acupuncture techniques maximize the natural healing and immune system, Qi, and aid blood circulation, giving the highest benefit to his patients without using chemical medicine or electronic medical equipment, he only uses pure needles.
His passion is not only treating apparent symptoms but he always considers the root cause of the problem, even taking into account the emotional condition of his patients as oriental medicine believes body and mind are as one, not two separate entities.
Acupuncture points are situated in all areas of the body. Sometimes the appropriate points are far removed from the area of your pain. Your acupuncture practitioner will tell you the general site of the planned treatment and whether you need to remove any clothing. A gown, towel or sheet will be provided. You lie on a padded table for the treatment, which involves:
Acupuncture needles are inserted to various depths at strategic points on your body. The needles are very thin, so insertion usually causes little discomfort. People often don’t feel them inserted at all. Between five and 20 needles are used in a typical treatment. You may feel a mild aching sensation when a needle reaches the correct depth.
Your practitioner may gently move or twirl the needles after placement or apply heat or mild electrical pulses to the needles.
In most cases, the needles remain in place for 10 to 20 minutes while you lie still and relax. There is usually no discomfort when the needles are removed.
After acupuncture, you should not take a shower or go swimming for 12-24 hours. This allows the treatment to remain in the body undisturbed.
The risks of acupuncture are low. Common side effects include soreness and minor bleeding or bruising where the needles were inserted. We use single-use, disposable needles so the risk of infection is minimal.
Private car park available at all locations.
