When the cells in our body are stressed due to changes in their environment – poor nutrition, lack of movement, emotional stress and sleep deprivation – proteins can become damaged, impairing their normal function and further increasing their vulnerability to change, leading to chronic disease and poor health
Paradoxically, during exposure to stress from temperature extremes (sauna and cold therapy) and reduced nutrient levels (as in fasting), cells increase expression of genes called Heat Shock Proteins (HSP) to repair or re-synthesize damaged cells.
These ‘health hacks’ have been demonstrated to extend longevity through their regulation of the immune system, and their risk reduction of cancer, dementia and metabolic diseases.
