Most STDs and STIs show symptoms that range from rashes, pain and genital discharge to rapid and unhealthy weight loss. These symptoms vary with the type of infection or disease. In many common cases, STDs like HIV are asymptomatic in their early stages – meaning they show no internal or external symptoms initially. Our HIV Early Detection test helps identify the infection in its early stages, giving you a chance to get treated.

You can get tested the next day, but please know that it can take days or weeks after exposure for the bacteria or virus to be in your body at a level noticeable by testing. You should get retested in case you initially got tested too soon.

Our doctors are here to help you make an informed decision about sexual health testing. We’ll ask you a few confidential questions during your consultation about your circumstances, but you don’t have to give any information you don’t want to. Either way our Doctors will be able to diagnose you and help you with the testing and treatment.

Above we have made a quick reference table showing what is included in each test package. If you have been exposed to unprotected sex, we recommend a full blood and urine screen package.

The easiest way to book an appointment is to do it online using the tool ‘Book An Appointment’ on this page. If you prefer, you can call or even WhatsApp us to arrange an appointment. Or if you are unable to confirm a time for an appointment just drop in between 9.00am to 8.00pm any day of the week. Our team is here to assist you.

That really depends on your circumstances, but most appointments take no more than 45 minutes. As we have specialized services there is no waiting time whether you book an appointment or drop-in.

Turn around time for blood tests is now the same day* (if sample is received before 1pm). The full panel test results will be delivered to your email within 24 hours of your appointment (sample collection).

We only gather the minimum information necessary to assist us in providing the best treatment and advice. We strive to keep the processs as simple as possible.

DNA Health uses only the most reliable lab partners which are based in Dubai. Our lab partner for STD, is the largest laboratory company in the Middle East, and has been our trusted partner for over 5 years.

What is Chlamydia?

Chlamydia is a sexually transmitted infection (STI) caused by a type of bacteria that can infect various regions of the body in both men and women, including the penis, vagina, anus and throat.

How can I catch Chlamydia?

Chlamydia is transmitted through unprotected sexual contact, from one individual who has it to another who does not. Chlamydia cannot be transmitted through kissing or sharing toilet seats or towels.

What are the symptoms of Chlamydia?

It is known as a silent infection. Many individuals will have no symptoms or early signs of a Chlamydia infection. This makes it difficult to tell whether an individual is infected or not. However, some people do get symptoms, which may include:

How do we test for Chlamydia

Chlamydia can be very harmful, so it is important to get tested regularly. Our process is fast and painless. Our standard test for Chlamydia is with a urine sample.

Can Chlamydia be treated?

Yes, chlamydia can be cured with the right treatment. Repeat infection however is very common so it is important that you retest regularly. Please refer to your doctor for more advice

What is Syphilis?

Syphilis is a sexually transmitted infection that can cause serious health problems if it is not treated. Syphilis is divided into stages (primary, secondary, latent, and tertiary). There are different signs and symptoms associated with each stage. Syphilis is divided into stages (primary, secondary, latent, and tertiary), with different signs and symptoms associated with each stage.

What are the symptoms of Syphilis?

A person with primary syphilis generally has a sore or sores at the original site of infection. These sores usually occur on or around the genitals, around the anus or in the rectum, or in or around the mouth. These sores are usually (but not always) firm, round, and painless. Symptoms of secondary syphilis include skin rash, swollen lymph nodes, and fever. The signs and symptoms of primary and secondary syphilis can be mild, and they might not be noticed. During the latent stage, there are no signs or symptoms. Tertiary syphilis is associated with severe medical problems. A doctor can usually diagnose tertiary syphilis with the help of multiple tests. It can affect the heart, brain, and other organs of the body.

Can Syphilis be treated?

Yes, syphilis can be cured with the right antibiotics from your health care provider. However, treatment might not undo any damage that the infection has already done. Please refer to your doctor for more advice.

What is Hepatitis B?

Hepatitis B is a potentially life-threatening liver infection caused by the hepatitis B virus (HBV). It is a major global health problem. It can cause chronic infection and puts people at high risk of death from cirrhosis and liver cancer.

How is Hepatitis B spread?

The hepatitis B virus is spread when blood, semen, or other body fluid infected with the hepatitis B virus enters the body of a person who is not infected. People can become infected with the virus from:

What are the symptoms of Hepatitis B?

How do we test for Hepatitis B?

A number of blood tests are available to diagnose and monitor people with hepatitis B. They can be used to distinguish acute and chronic infections. Laboratory diagnosis of hepatitis B infection focuses on the detection of the hepatitis B surface antigen HBsAg.

Can Hepatitis B be treated?

Yes. The best way to prevent hepatitis B is by getting vaccinated. The hepatitis B vaccine is safe and effective. Completing the series of shots is needed for full protection.

What is Hepatitis C?

Hepatitis C is a liver disease caused by the hepatitis C virus (HCV): the virus can cause both acute and chronic hepatitis, ranging in severity from a mild illness lasting a few weeks to a serious, lifelong illness. Hepatitis C is a major cause of liver cancer.

How do we test for Hepatitis C?

These Are Two Common Tests To Determine If You Have Hepatitis C

Can Hepatitis C be treated?

There have been new advances in treatment for hepatitis C, including highly effective medications that show the majority of people can be cured. Treatment is also easier than in the past because it usually involves pills only (no injections), there are fewer side effects

What is Ureaplasma?

Ureaplasma is a bacterium that can be passed through sexual contact although it is not considered a classic STI or STD because of its low degree of pathogenicity. The two species are Parvum and Urealyticum. It is estimated that quite a large proportion of the sexually active population is infected with Ureaplasma without it causing any problems whatsoever. We do however dispute claims that over 70% of the UK population has this infection. Having processed thousands of urine samples over the years, it is nowhere near this level!

What are the symptoms of Ureaplasma?

Most people do not have any symptoms whatsoever and there is no evidence that Ureaplasma has any long term health consequences for those who are asymptomatic. Where symptoms are present, these include:

Complications of ureaplasma infections can lead to meningitis, pneumonia and infertility.

How do we test for Ureaplasma?

We test for Ureaplasma using a urine sample or a vaginal swab. The urine sample or swab from throat and rectum are subjected to a PCR test that looks for the DNA of the bacteria. If you have symptoms then we recommend a wider screen such as our Full Urine Panel or Full STD Screening, which tests for infections that can cause the same symptoms as Ureaplasma.

Can Ureaplasma be treated?

Fortunately, in most cases, Ureaplasma is easy to treat. If you wish to be retested then we recommend waiting at least 3 weeks after treatment has been completed. Some people continue to experience symptoms after the infection has been cleared but these symptoms will disappear with time.

What is Genital Herpes?

Genital herpes is a sexually transmitted disease (STD) caused by the herpes simplex viruses type 1 or type 2.

How can I catch Genital Herpes?

Infections are transmitted through contact with lesions, mucosal surfaces, genital secretions, or oral secretions. HSV-1 and HSV-2 can also be shed from skin that looks normal. Generally, a person can only get HSV-2 infection during sexual contact with someone who has a genital HSV-2 infection.

What are the symptoms of Genital Herpes?

Most individuals infected with HSV-1 or HSV-2 are asymptomatic or have very mild symptoms that go unnoticed or are mistaken for another skin condition. As a result, 87.4% of infected individuals remain unaware of their infection. When symptoms do occur, they typically appear as one or more vesicles on or around the genitals, rectum or mouth.

How do we test for Genital Herpes

The preferred HSV tests for patients with active genital ulcers include viral culture or detection of HSV DNA by polymerase chain reaction (PCR). PCR is more sensitive, allows for more rapid and accurate results

Can Genital Herpes be treated?

There is no cure for herpes. Antiviral medications can, however, prevent or shorten outbreaks during the period of time the person takes the medication. In addition, daily suppressive therapy (i.e. daily use of antiviral medication) for herpes can reduce the likelihood of transmission to partners.

What is HIV?

HIV stands for human immunodeficiency virus. It is the virus that can lead to acquired immunodeficiency syndrome or AIDS if not treated. HIV attacks the body’s immune system, specifically the CD4 cells (T cells), which help the immune system fight off infections. Untreated, HIV reduces the number of CD4 cells (T cells) in the body, making the person more likely to get other infections or infection-related cancers. Over time, HIV can destroy so many of these cells that the body can’t fight off infections and disease. These opportunistic infections or cancers take advantage of a very weak immune system and signal that the person has AIDS, the last stage of HIV infection.

What are the symptoms of HIV?

Most people infected with HIV experience a short, flu-like illness that occurs 2-6 weeks after infection. After this, HIV may not cause any symptoms for several years. It’s estimated up to 80% of people who are infected with HIV experience this flu-like illness. The most common symptoms are:

The symptoms usually last 1-2 weeks, but can be longer. They’re a sign that your immune system is putting up a fight against the virus.

But having these symptoms doesn’t necessarily mean you have the HIV virus. Remember: they’re commonly caused by conditions other than HIV.

Can HIV be treated?

Unlike some other viruses, the human body can’t get rid of HIV completely, even with treatment. So once you get HIV, you have it for life

How do we test for HIV?

We use the latest FDA approved 4th generation HIV p24 Antigen / Antibody test which is performed with a blood sample. This test can detect 95% of infections at 28 days after exposure and more than 99.9% after 3 months. The FDA-approved 4th generation HIV test evaluates the blood for HIV Type 1 and Type 2 in two ways: By detecting antibodies that your immune system creates specifically to fight the HIV virus, as well as detecting Human Immunodeficiency Virus antigens called HIV P24 antigens. We also have the HIV RNA test, otherwise known as an ‘early detection test’, which can accurately diagnose the presence of infection and quantify viral load from 9 days after suspected exposure.
