Breathwork encompasses various techniques that incorporate intentional use of the breath. 

Breathing brings fresh oxygen into the lungs and then into the blood to nourish the entire body. When the body is stressed it can affect our breathing as we take shallow, shorter breaths. Deep and slow abdominal breathing stimulates the vagus nerve which has been shown to reduce anxiety. Stimulating the vagus nerve can also help to activate the parasympathetic nervous system needed for healing and deep rest. 

The vagus nerve is the longest nerve in your body. It influences your digestive function, breathing, and heart rate. 

But what you really need to pay special attention to is the “tone” of your vagus nerve. Vagal tone is an internal biological process that represents the activity of the vagus nerve. 

Increasing your vagal tone activates the parasympathetic nervous system, and having higher vagal tone means that your body can relax faster after stress. 

Your vagal tone can be measured by tracking certain biological processes such as your heart rate, your breathing rate, and your heart rate variability (HRV). 

What to expect from an breathwork  session

During an energising breathwork session, you can expect a more active and engaging type of breathwork where controlled breathing may be shorter and sharper on both the inhale and exhale. These classes are typically done in a seated position and can be cleansing both emotionally and physically. 

In an unwinding breathwork session, you can expect a class that focuses on using the breath to reach a deeper abdominal type of breathing that is especially great for deep relaxation and de-stressing. Classes may be done in a seated position or lying down.

Check out our class schedule and description. Our unwinding classes focus on deep abdominal breathing that is great for everyone. Our energising classes may not be recommended for anyone experiencing anxiety, panic attacks, is pregnant, has high blood pressure, cardiac or spinal problems. 

As you start an active breath; you begin to increase the level of oxygen in the body. This helps to oxygenate the blood, stimulates the hypothalamus gland, and releases endorphins in the body. 

During sessions, clients can feel their nervous system slowing down and gain a tangible sense of dropping into their bodies, often in the first few moments

Breathwork can be both energising and relaxing and a great addition to any day. We recommend our energise classes for the morning and our unwind classes for the evenings. There is no need for any downtime after breathwork.  

Yes, we have beautiful male and female changing rooms, with lockers and shower facilities. 

Our clinic is right next to a very large public car park.  There is always parking available, with the clinic only a few steps from the car park, you will find our location very convenient.
